i would like to install a C-85 I have on my DE project. Does anyone have a similar motor installed? My other option is a Type 4 VW, but they are within a few pounds of each other. Any thoughts?

There is a DE in Brazil built by Giovanni Bergamaschi with a c-65. It is the only one that jumps to mind.
If you already own the 2 of them, the size of the bearing that takes the prop loads makes the C-85 a lead pipe cinch.
Watch out for a need to move the wing ahead to get the CG right, then watch out for landing gear geometry to put the tire contact point 15 degrees ahead of the CG.
The range for taildraggers is around 12 to 17 degrees ahead of the cg. 15 should be the sweet spot...
True CG is a location with a horizontal displacement from the datum and a vertical displacement relative to the thrust center line.
Attachment explains how to find both...

I have an A-65 in my DE. Moved the firewall back about 5 inches to help compensate for the added weight. since the mags hang out back, I actually moved the engine back only 2 or 3 inches from where the VW would be. Still have to put a little lead in the tail to get the CG at 30% chord. without lead, the CG was at about 26% of Chord.

Thanks for the replies, after seeing rfeenstra's build, I think I'm going with the C-85. May have to remove starter and generator, we'll see. I hope I can keep the complete build less then 8 lbs wing loading.
