Title: CE Nose Rib Lightening Holes?
Post by: blue_flyer_23 on June 09, 2016, 02:38:32 PM
Is it worth drilling out all the lightening holes in the nose ribs?  I believe I saw pictures of someone's double eagle build without drilling them out.  I drilled out 3 so far and messed one up.  I'm kinda thinking of just drilling the 5 in the center section for the CE.  It's time consuming.  I'm using a hand drill with a dewalt brad point drill bit, since I don't have a drill press.  Anyone else figured out a good system to do this or is not necessary?  Taking a break for now.  :)

The only way to drill them out accurately is to use a drill press and a Forstner bit!!! IF you going to drill them...

Yes, it IS worth drilling out lightening holes. in every part you can. Weight is drag. Don't let your plane gain unnecessary weight.

Thanks everyone for your input.  I'm either going find someone with a drill press or buy one and drill them out.  I'd like to keep it as light as possible.
