It's been over a year since Leonard's release of the Cabin Eagle plans. I got mine, but I am not in a position to build right now. Does anyone know of any Cabin Eagle builds being documented (in the group, Facebook, blogs, etc.) that I could follow? If I can't build, I'd at least like to follow along with someone else build to learn and enjoy. Thanks! Cheers, Matthew

Mathew,
I'm making progress on my Cabin Eagle build. The wings, fuselage, and tail feathers are pretty much complete. Working on wiring, then hanging the engine and covering.
There are still a thousand and one little things to be done. I was hoping to fly this year but I'm a bit behind schedule. Hopefully the 1st half of next year.
You can see my progress at http://www.mykitlog.com/pshadwick (http://www.mykitlog.com/pshadwick) . I'm not great at keeping it up to date and I still need to add pictures.

Thanks, Paul, I hope to see more pics and look forward to following your progress.

My CE is progressing VERY slowly. I do not have a build log and I am not very good at taking or posting pictures. I have one wing nearly done, but the aileron is not built yet. I am starting to install the plywood leading edge. I have waited on building the aileron because I am considering making a change to the wing fold system which may necessitate a change to the control system. So far, what I have built will work on either the DE or the CE, so not much info you may be looking for.

Any updates on the Cabin Eagle builds for 2018?
-
Progress has been slow the last six months. I am hoping to fly by mid summer.

Great to hear, how about a few pics here or on your build log?

Not many pic's available on this computer. Here's my planned paint scheme and one working on the kick panels.

Neat, I like the New Zealand roundel. From the photo, it looks like you've made some changes (those triangular gussets vs. the round washers on the plans, for example). Could you discuss what you did and why?

I have a rotax 582 I’m going to try. The recommendation is for rubber mounts at both ends with a two stroke. That’s what I made the firewall mount as I did.

I look forward to seeing your project progress, the CE should have great performance with a 582.

Paul, Rich, or anyone else have any updates on Cabin Eagle project progress? Whose will be the first customer-built CE to fly?

My build has been extra slow this year. I put a lot on hold to concentrate on getting my private pilot license. I passed my check ride on December 2nd! After the holiday obligations are finished, I will be getting back to my build. Not much to report. My right wing has half of the leading edge on but no aileron yet. The left wing has no nose ribs yet or aileron. All my wing and strut attach fittings are done. No fuselage or tail work started yet.
-
I'm also well behind schedule.
The fuselage firewall back is complete and painted. Both wings are built and one has been covered and painted. Tail feathers are done.
I hope to have the other wing covered by the end of Feb (some travelling in January). Then I'll temporarily mount the engine and get the CG, build the engine mount and connect everything up.
Oh I did get my tailwheel endorsement :)

Congrats on the Tailwheel endorsement!

More than three years since the Cabin Eagle plans became available, has anyone built and flown one yet or even made substantial progress? I am surprised to have heard so little about what seems like a very appealing design. Cheers, Matthew

I taxied mine yesterday for the 2nd time. Had to make a seat adjuster to move the seat forward as I could hardly reach the pedals the 1st time. I only have another day or two of work to get it ready for air worthiness inspection. Not sure how long that will take.
Here is a photo from the 1st taxi test.

Great to see the southern cross stars 😎
Looking awesome

Looks really nice! I have been thinking about building that as my next build but was not sure but after seeing what yours looks like I may re-evaluate again building the Cabin Eagle! Do you have more pictures? I would love to see more detail on the build.

I'm not great with pictures or much detail, but my build log is here. http://www.mykitlog.com/pshadwick (http://www.mykitlog.com/pshadwick)
I've got several months worth of updates to post :(
