Title: Builders Log
Post by: Vince Carucci on September 22, 2017, 02:30:23 AM
I was curious what other builders are doing to log their work.

Looks like a simple notebook is probably fine.

As of today, I'm in need of a build-log.  Thanks much to Theodore who today delivered the sum total of materials and much completed items for his LEXL.  Since I live under surface level class-E airspace and mostly 700' class-E airspace surrounding, I've decdied to build this bird as an EAB/51% which means I need to document the buil to prove that 51% was amature built.  So, a few questions.

I've read above about builder logs and am wondering (as an update) what folks have used/liked besides Kitlog.
Also it seems that there is a section here in the forum called "build logs" (I'm still figuring out the layout of everything on the forum) so are most folk just starting a new thread in "build logs" as a pseudo build log to share their build and to seek help?

Thanks!

A builders log on here is just a dedicated category that you post your build progress in.  It seems to have worked fairly well here.  As long as you stay loosely "on topic" you never have to even consider if you are posting in the right category.

I'm not sure having a builders log on here would qualify as your build documentation, but don't really see why not.  You could print it out and put it in a folder and hand it to the DAR if need be.

Our DAR was local, and knew of our work on our DE Stubby.  So, no convincing there.  When I went for the Repairman Cert, I took in a notebook and a bunch of pictures showing me doing work.  The FAA did not take much convincing that, in their eyes, I was qualified for the Repairman Cert.

Brock, You might want to check out the free Builder's Log available on the EAA website.  https://eaabuilderslog.org/?blhome

I decided not to renew my EAA membership this year otherwise, yes that was the first log that came to mind.  Thanks.

Dan, that sounds good.  I guess you need a name for it?  :emoji_u1f610: (how about... Brock's bits - LEXLV3)

It took 2 seconds, but I put it in the wrong place...  5 minutes to fix that, but hey -- I can see old from here.   :emoji_u1f62f:

Thanks Dan.

Let the adventure begin.

BTW - I purchased what Theodore had.  So if "Theo's XL exploits" belongs to him (with zero posts) I'm wondering if it can be removed.
