I recently purchased plans for the Legal Eagle. I've been told that the LE XL is better version. What makes the XL better as I am debating on purchased plans for it?
-
For starters, the XL has a roomier cockpit, higher gross weight, and an aeronautical engineer signed off on the wing.
-
My understanding is also a upgraded wing attach system, different wheel/tire combo, however at a penalty of inching much closer to the 254 lb value.
-
Is there any marked difference in construction between the two -- for those of us (me) with four extra thumbs...
-
I am building the standard LE. I've seen the plans for the XL and the building process/materials appear to be identical. What differs are the measurements. If I'm not mistaken, the rib drawings are the same for both A/C.

The straps that are the wing mounts have been placed lower on the spar in the XL. Raising the wing a few inches-headroom.
Also the fuselage mount on the XL is a T with separate bolt holes for each wing connection. The LE has a single mount requiring both wings attaching simultaneously. Slightly wider fuselage, longer wings and different wheels and tires.
