Hi guys, Ray in Crescent here. Still building ribs. While waiting I started to lay out the front spar.
I have Leonard's plans and Iron Design's supplement drawings. I have a couple of questions.
On the spar root ends Leonard shows a 3/4" filler ( page 35). The filler appears to start at ends of the spar caps.
On page 33, in the same area, it shows a 11/2" piece then the filler. Do I install the 1 1/2 piece and the filler or just the filler?
Next, the 3/4x2 spar strut pieces. Is there an critical measurement where they are placed? Or as long they are located in the indicated spar web on both front an rear spars? Thanks in advance

Hi, Ray..
What Leonard is showing (not very clearly) with the 1 1/2" dimension is the location of the second inboard rib.
The filler block should go from the root to rib 3. One of the views doesn't show it going all the way. Now, also on page 35, he says to cover both sides with 1/8" plywood, but on the cross section view, he just shows the ply on one side. :) I, personally, skinned both sides.
YMMV. (shrug)

Now, for question #2.
There is a dimension to the strut fitting location and an angle given (from memory) ::)
Strike a line from the center of the strut hole on the 22 degree (again from memory) angle. One inch on each side of that is where the filler goes.
Here is how I located the fittings after the filler block was glued in.

Naturally, having it on center of the strut fitting is only good practice.
I detailed my wing build on the thread, "a little progress" in the XL forum.Hopefully, it will give you some ideas.

Here are some photos of the 3/4" filler block and Ply cover. The 2" wide ply pieces go on top of the ply web and the large triangular ply piece (i.e. both sides of spars).

Thanks again guys
