Title: Briggs and Stratton V-twin 23 - final specs?
Post by: kalazzerx on March 05, 2023, 06:35:08 PM
I was wondering what the final specs were for the V-twin.  I do not see any officially list here or on Leonard's page.  Curious about what the final output is HP wise compared to like a 37HP half VW or in my case I have a Mosler CB40.  I am a heavier pilot and need as much HP as I can get with as little weight as possible.  Things I would like to know - total thrust, total final weight, HP, Redrive ratio....

I am actually seriously considering the POLINI THOR 303 - I know it is a two-stroke and Leonard frowns on anything two-stroke but it and the 250 are being used in quite a few Ultralights now.

All the comments I read about ORV flying with the B&S say it performs about like a 32 HP 1/2 VW. Doesn't sound like a solution for heavier pilots.

yes, does not sound like it - that is sort of what I was afraid of.  Thanks

Well, there is only so much you can do with 23 horsepower.  :) Yes, the reduction drive lets you swing a big prop, and that no doubt helps take off performance.
I've said many times, you've never heard anyone say, "That would be a really nice airplane if it only had a little less horsepower.."
