The tail fethers that I am the second owner of were built w/o the 4130 hinges. As a result I have to decide how to approach intallation of hinges. I've seen the pics of bent piano hinges which is what I believe Theo had in mind. But I've also run across the solution used on the A-Plane (affordaplane). Here is a pic below (scrn shot from KitPlanes). What I like is these hinges be purchased ready made and installation is quick & easy. What might not work is that the A-Plane uses 1" tubing while the LEXL uses 3/4" thus the bend on the hinges will not be correct. One solution would be to install them in a bed of JB-weld which I believe would work out nicely.
Will have to ponder this for a bit. Post here if you have some wisdom to share...

Simply make the normal Legal Eagle 4130 hinges but only using 1/2 of the large tube. If you use 7/8" OD x 0.058" wall, it should snap over your 3/4" aluminum tubes and you can secure each hinge with two rivets, and JB-Weld (if desired).

Thanks Kamcoman. I had briefly thought along those lines but your picture, well you know, a thousand words.
BTW - I was looking at your Divinycell fuel tank on another thread (Chuck's). Do you have more pictures on a build log? What filler neck did you use?

The filler neck is a PVC plumbing piece. It is smooth pipe on one end and threaded on the other. I epoxied the smooth end into a couple of layers of foam. The cap was the screw-on piece that came with the neck. It had a large hole in it I sealed with a 1/8" thick piece of Plexiglass glued with JB-Weld Plastic Bond (2-part plastic glue)
