How much distance from the edge of the gusset should I have on the XL engine mount after welding the eng. mount 1 1/8" tube or spool to the .063 gusset? I haven't welded mine yet but when I lay them out I only have about 1/4" from the edge of the gusset to the 1 1/8" engine mount spool or tube. I cut the .063 gusset 3 1/4" X 3 1/4 as call out on the plans.

Charles, I had hoped someone else would of chimed in on your question before now who had flown the full case engine mounts. I haven't flown mine yet, but here's my 2 cents on the subject. I changed the size of the plates to 3 1/2" wide by 3" tall. They are the same weight and it gives a quarter inch more side clearance for the spools. I hope this helps you.

Thanks Poorman2, I wanted to be sure that I wasn't the only one with that small of a clearance from the edge. It just didn't seem like enough to support the weight of the engine. There was a little more clearance on the bottom eng. mount gussets.

I decided to build a Jig to align the engine mounts because I didn't weld station #1 in the flat position while building the fuse. It lets me weld the gussets flat and centered on the eng. mount tubes and then holds the gussets and welded mounts in place while welding to the fuse. Here are a couple of pictures.

Great idea for a jig Charles. It looks good!!! I like the shape you finaly decided on for the mount plates. Plenty of side clearance. :)
