Is there any reason why everyone uses a long tapered prop instead of a short Broad bladed prop on 1/2 vw (94mmx76mm) stroked engine

I have located the Photo file that goes with the book above - the quality is terrible but you can get a good idea of the photos if you print them out... The treasured "Butter Paddle Special" is located on page 31... For our draggy Eagles it would be useless but I'd make one for a Teenie2 in a hot minute: Attached next-
