H86 build: how we're doing it
« on: May 04, 2019, 04:06:14 PM »
We wanted to make the leading edge as stable as possible, you know, dimpling and such, so decided to place two foam ribs between each wood set. Got the 1" foam from Lowes and peeled off the clear and foil backing then tried to cut it with a razor. Millions of foamy bits all over the shop. Built a hot wire cutter from the wire in the wife's hair dryer and cut the remainder without making a mess. Cut "blanks" at 7.5" square and glued in place. Used the hot wire cutter to shape them using the wood ribs as guides. Glued the nose spline in place and done. Hope this helps anyone who's considering this. Eagle on!
