Fuel Lines
« on: July 04, 2020, 06:56:09 AM »
I wonder if anyone would share their fuel line information.

  • The first thing I wonder is line size (1/8 or 1/4 ID). Can 1/8 supply enough fuel to a 45 hp VW?
  • The blue aluminum fittings seem to be for flared metal tubing. Can poly tubes be used with these fittings
  • Is anyone using Nylon compression fittings. They are cheep and light. Are they strong enough?
  • Brass fittings are inexpensive and can be found in compression type. Does brass react with aluminum?
  • Metal or poly tubing?
  • Where did you place the fuel shutoff valve?

ACS and Wicks both offer a variety of fittings.  Would anyone care to share their thoughts/recommendations/warnings?

Try this website: http://www.calctool.org/CALC/eng/civil/hazen-williams_g It should let you enter tube size, length of tubing, amount of tubing drop. When I used the calculator it showed 5.5 gallons per hour for 1/8" ID, 6-ft long with 2-foot drop tubing. Hard for me to believe it. I'll be using 5/16" ID plastic fuel line with push-on fittings & hose clamps. As for a fuel shutoff, I'll be using the item pictured. $20 on eBay. It will mount in the bottom of my fuel tank, in a small sump area. Here is another fuel flow calculator with similar results: https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/pipe-flow

Use at least the 1/4" line, nothing wrong with larger, the 5/15"
