new to the forum. alternate wing
« on: August 21, 2020, 01:02:22 PM »
Hi guys,  I am new to the forum but not completely new to home building.  I built a single seat clipped wing challenger many years ago.  Several years ago I started a tiger cub but due to lack of builder support and the fact it couldn't be built under the ultralight weight I stopped.  Now I have a set of wings hanging in my shop which I believe would be perfect for a legal eagle xl.  I have been trying to find online the spacing between the attach points for the wings to see if I should order the plans and attempt this project.  The wingspan is 29' 4" with a 130 sq. ft. of area.  Can someone let me know what the measurements between the wing attach points are and any thoughts on using these wings on a Legal Eagle XL.
Thanks,
Art

Welcome to the forum. Hope your wings work out. One builder used a set of Kolb wings on his and it seems to have worked just fine. Legal Eagles have approximately 28-3/8" between spar centers. May vary a little bit from builder to builder depending on thickness of ply fitting doublers installed. The Kolb wing Eagle builder goes by the name of pvwolfe12345 on YouTube. Here is one of his videos:

Thanks for the info.  I’m going to look into it. The tiger cub has two spars but they are the leading edge and trailing edges of the wings. Maybe I can use a bigger and longer tube that runs along the top of the cockpit where the wing attached

Well ok, then. If you wings weigh roughly 30 lbs each, they should work, and stay within part 103. After all, you are building the fuselage, and you can make the wing attach points whatever you need them to be. Get the decalage right and bolt them up.. (shrug)

I'm planning on using challenger style wings as well. 48" between tube spars and 8"of flaperon behind that. 12-14' length currently planned.  [/img]

I'd say the biggest concern would be getting the weight an balance correct...
Thinking of building a Legal Eagle

Just purchased my plans but I have no idea how to print them on a full pages.  The drawings cover about 1/4 of the page currently.  Anyone know what i need to do?

You might get some help from this thread:   https://www.eaglersnest.com/forum/index.php?topic=2238.msg12516#msg12516  Search for "resizing plans"
