New England Winter
« on: December 26, 2019, 05:04:51 AM »
Didn't see this coming.

The bottle of EKOBOND arrived Friday the 13th [first sign of trouble]. When the package was opened, I found a sensor on the side that indicated the item was subject to temperatures below freezing. There are clear warnings on the bottle against that. The delivery guy placed it on my front porch and I found it when I got home that evening. The high temp on that day was 30 F'. ACS has a $100 insurance on all orders. I'm hoping for a replacement. The obvious problem is the next package is going to arrive in January and is likely to suffer the same fate. What to do...

One, sign up for notifications with shippers. I get updates and real time info from FedEx UPS, USPS. Maybe a friend or neighbor could secure your package. Here in Ohio not just weather but porch pirates are an issue.  I am usually notified of delivery before the truck pulls away. I believe it is automatic  from the drivers scan device. My wife regularly orders orchids from Hawaii and other plants from warm climates. Rather than have them placed on a freezing cold dock or ride around in a cold truck she has them delivered to a store for pickup. Example : fed ex will deliver her boxes to a local Kinkos for pick up. Kinkos is owned by fed ex. Ups can do similar. Ask for help from the sender as well.

NE Winter update: ACS was kind enough to send me a replacement quart of adhesive. It arrived in the afternoon on a day that reached 44 deg. I expected success. No such luck. The COLDMARK sensor showed freezing conditions. The packages are traveling UPS ground. Somewhere between GA and CT, they are being kept in an unheated environment. Probably in the back of an 18 wheeler. With no other solutions, ACS is refunding my payments and I'm going to have to wait till April when the weather is better.

Hats off to ACS for their great customer service. UPS... not so much. Maybe others can learn from my misfortune when it comes to unforeseen risks with shipping.

As a side note Amazon has fired Fed EX for not meeting their delivery standards.

I have told ACS to specify "hold for pickup" at my local UPS hub.  I was dilatory about picking it up and they sent it back.  Understandably they don't want packages sitting around that could start ticking...

ACS dint charge me for extra shipping, but the aluminum sheets were bent up rather badly after the 2 trips.

If you tell them hold for pickup you had better diligently track the shipment and pick it up the day it hits the UPS depot.

For sure check the times the public counter is open, they keep odd hours here.  I am sure it has to do with when the trucks get loaded and unloaded.

It might not be too far for me to make a road trip over to the Chicago store when I am ready. Might try to source my steel locally but want to check with a few builders in this area,
Licensed but dormant since about 1996.

SUCCESS!  I finally ordered and received my quart of EKOBOND adhesive. The cold sensor was not activated.
