Thrust Bearing
« on: March 15, 2024, 12:53:21 PM »
I got the notice that Verner wanted us to check the amount of thrust bearing extending forward of the case. Just wondering if anybody has checked theirs yet and what the result were. I already got the replacement part from Verner, whether or not I need it. That's great customer service!

I suppose since I didn't get mine from a "factory authorized dealer," I didn't get the memo. Can you tell me what I need to check? And yes, Verner took care of me when I had a couple of issues.
TIA

I did not get a notice, either.  Can you reprint the notice here, or attach a pdf or photo, please?
Thanks.

this is the letter from Verner. The link for the video is at the end. Hope this helps!:

Hello,
I don't know if your Scarlett 3VL engine dealer has contacted you.
I'd rather write one more time - Kamil Verner.
I need to have the simmerring (gufero) retainer checked on 3VL and 3VLA engines manufactured from September 2022 to today. Unfortunately it could be that the part has been swapped from an older 3VW type. This part holds both the simmerring (gufero) and the crankshaft main bearing axially. And here is the problem. The older type has the recess for the ball bearing 1 mm deeper. This does not secure this bearing against forward movement. Therefore, this part must be disassembled according to the created video-manual and checked. On all engines the bearing should protrude 3 mm from the crankcase. If this is not the case, please inform me directly. The bearing may have already come out a little - it must be carefully tapped or pushed back inside the crankcase.

If you have the correct bearing retainer removed (i.e. 3mm) you can refit or put a new one in.

I am very sorry for the complications and thank you for your cooperation.

P.S. Any skilled person can do the replacement, no need for an aircraft mechanic.

The engines may be fine, but we need to be sure.

Thanks for that! Mine was assembled before September 2022, so it should be ok. It's probably worth checking, though..

Thanks for the info and video link.  We have the 3VW, which is a different model and built before Sept 2022.  The 3VW parts are different from those shown in the video.  We were not contacted about this issue.

So, I'll conclude that the issue does not pertain to us.

Thanks again, good info. for all Verner 3xx users.
