Inboard Metal Diagonal Bracket

Anybody know why we are supposed to use a metal bracket on the inboard diagonal end instead of gluing it in like the other diagonals? I read somewhere it is for fuel tank clearance but since all the tanks are custom sized, there may be another reason.

My interpretation of this area of My plans (XL K78) is this: The inboard diagonal terminates at the area of the spar that is filled to carry the rear wing root fitting so it can not be gusseted to the spar capstrip like everywhere else. The solution was to create the metal bracket and share a bolt with the wing root fitting to effectively transfer the load directly to the root attach fitting.

Its worth noting that in Leonard's wing video (around 34 min in) he shows detail of the diagonals and its considerably different than the XL plans. I have been told that this video was made before the XL and should only be used as general reference but I really like the way the wing root attach fittings are designed out in the video. Can anyone explain why the horizontal root fittings shown in my plans are better than the 45 degree arrangement in Leonard's video?

The inboard end bracket is metal so that it can use a common bolt with the aluminum rear spar attachment. I don't know if it's a limitation to the glue area caused by the spar attachment to if this is the most loaded diagonal.  It's also a L.E. Union requirement.
