Legal Eagle XL wing on a Legal Eagle
« on: September 19, 2022, 05:57:17 PM »
Hello All! I bought a Legal Eagle Kit recently. Fusealage was all welded, all materials to finish. I have built and installed the controls, seat, and the entire tail section. Started on wing spars. Remebered weight restrication of LE. I weigh 231 lbs. I read I should have built a LE XL. Can I build and install a LE XL wing and mount it on my LE?? Thank You!!!

Yes, but there are a few differences.  Contact Leonard Milholland for wing drawing.

Tony, I just saw this post. If you have not already started building your spars, you can measure mine when we are able to get together after New Years. You can build your ribs, since they are the same. I ordered a set of Iron Designs wing drawings and built my ribs using that design (a little different aileron cove). As I understand it, the spars are a little more robust on the XL, & they are definitely longer. An XL has 13 ribs per wing panel. You can probably modify the wing attach method on your LE. The XL method is a lot better & gives a lot more headroom. Here is a shot of my left wing.
