Using the Search Tab on the toolbar  here in the Forum there is a relevant post to the "Aileron Travel" string as a question  (notice the spelling)

me down - got some stuff on back order to 20 oct covering and glue - we are in good place with the ability at moment to get 
8 hrs + a day on it

OK, I am a little slow, but I am not finding any conclusion about the correct aileron up and down deflection.  Maybe Tom H or Captain Hardy can enlighten us on what they did and how their's fly.  It would be great to make it so turns require no rudder.

Docmatt, seems that I had intended to measure the deflection to help answer this post, but I must have forgotten.  Now, there is too much snow and not enough degrees on the thermometer to go out to the field.  So, I'll have to try to remember to get the measurements next time.

Looking at the plans and my notes, I made the aileron bellcrank like the plans, except that I put the pivot point (bearing center) more in-line with the cable attach points than the plans.  The plans show an offset of 3/8" from a line connecting the two cable holes.  I put the center at a 1/4" offset.  I am not sure why, and not sure if makes much difference. 

The "base" of the "T" of the bellcrank is angled forward 10 degrees.  This results in more "up" aileron than the opposite "down" aileron.  It seems to work well.  For shallow bank angles, no or little rudder is req'd to keep the ball centered.

When we built the LEU, the plans showed a square "T", but we made the aileron bellcrank with a forward angled base.  I think it also worked well, but we were so pre-occupied with clearing trees and such we never got to the fine points of how it flew.

I'll try to get the measurements, but it may be weeks.

Thanks for the reply Tom.  No hurry, I am still assembling the first wing.  I am just looking through the forum to find things that will be useful soon.  I really appreciate the info you are posting here and your scientific approach to testing.  Lots of the former core posters have left or are lying low.  So, I guess somebody needs to pick up the slack.  I can certainly advise people on my solutions to assembly challenges, but I have no way to know if they will fly.  It is really useful to have posters with flying planes to tell us what has worked or not.

You may go close to the cub but wont get the differential it has

Finally got some good flying weather yesterday.  It was sunny, CAVU, 60 degrees, a slight breeze.  A rare day around here this time of year.

I was able to measure DE Stubby's aileron travel.  Measured the left side, 25 deg up, 18 deg down, looked good.  The right side was 20 deg up, 23 deg down.  Out of whack.  I re-adjusted the pushrod links and arrived at 24 deg up, 19 deg down for both sides.

Not too late.  I expect to be doing final assembly in 2 years, at the current rate of progress.  I wish I had something to fly other than a kite with the beautiful days coming this week!
