The fix for the login problem...
« on: March 22, 2016, 09:25:42 AM »
About a week ago the cookie the forum sends to your computer was deleted off the server, while an extreme amount of changes were being done to make the Yahoo message search work, and upload all the files and photos from the old Yahoo group.

Unfortunately this has caused problems with staying logged in.  The problem is, the cooke you now have is different from the one the forum is using to keep up with your login, so it must be deleted.  That way a new cookie will be set and the forum and your computer box will again jive.

I alone must take responsibility for deleting the cookie while using the shotgun approach to troubleshooting.  Bad move...

There are 2 approaches to fixing the problem... delete all cookies on your machine or just the SMF one.  The latter is the best choice, because if you delete them all, you will have to login to every other web site that uses a password.

Here are the tips on getting it done...  http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-delete-cookies-in-chrome-firefox-safari-and-ie/

You should not have to re-boot your computer after getting the offending cookie off, just close and re-open your browser.

Sorry for the troubles...  :emoji_u1f615:

I found NO SMF cookie's on my machine - maybe it healed itself.

This is what the SMF cookie looks like in a FireFox browser Tools / Options / Privacy screen:

Would you know what the cookie looks like in Chrome? I deleted every cookie that contained "eagle" and I still had the issue. I ended up deleting all cookies from my system so now this site works as it used to. It seems the important cookie was buried somewhere in my long list of cookies. The problem is all other sites I visit will be like going there for the first time. I'm fine with that, but if we could get the specific label for the this cookie, we might spare the others from having to delete everything.

Following the instructions at the link provided in my post...

Hit a new tab, then
  • type "chrome://chrome/settings/content" into the URL bar.
  • click "all cookies and site data".
  • in the search box start typing "eag..."
I have 2 in there, I would delete them both...  see attached below.
