hey folks..........I have noticed that several folks have put their Pitot-static pikup on the left front jury strut. Any issues with that location?

Mine Pitot is left and tried in plane static but that failed to work so i did a test 1 inch under the Pitot and worked good but have to fit it on the
right wing do to access unfortunately ( jury struts ) Found it to be pretty close to the gps tests and other planes in formation - just out side the prop wash

DE Stubby originally had a pitot tube on the left front strut at the wing attach point and the static ports on each side of the fuselage side, lower edge, just aft of the door area.  I think the static pressure fluctuated, causing same in the AS indicator.  Then I just left the static line open just behind the seats.  This produced a smoother AS indication, but seemed the speeds were indicating too high.

The next thing I would like to try is to put a static probe near the pitot.  Mr G has had success.  Bob65, let us know how you end up.

Mr G.....Tom H...thanks guys for the input on locations. It will be late winter before I can get my DE airborne and verify, but it gives me some food-for-thought. Was it Plato that said."a wise man seeks council"? I'm not saying that I am wise.....it's just that @ 66 years old.....the calendar seems to accelerate...and my ego is at a standstill. I am SO done with the "Hold-my-beer-and-watch-this-schyt". (It is too painful at this point in life!) Others please chime in.....thanks...Bob

The pitot-static mast shown on this page (scroll 1/2 way down) is identical to what I used on the XL and is very accurate:
