Cabin Eagle wing location issue
« on: August 23, 2016, 06:20:18 AM »
To be honest I'm not entirely sure what is causing this issue. I have completed the wings for my cabin eagle using the plans for the double eagle. I believe they are identical to the cabin eagle aside from the aileron, and the cabin eagle plans seem to confirm.

My interpretation of page 67 of the plans is that the wing to fuselage fitting should be attached such that the bolt attaching the two is 1" above the bottom of the wing surface.

I have also completed tacking together the fuselage of my cabin eagle. While waiting for some more steel I began working on the center section leading edge and fuel tank. I placed the fuel tank on top of the cabin carry through and noticed that it sat higher than I expected. After some measurements (remember the wings aren’t actually attached yet) I discovered that using the measurements in the plans the tank will sit about 2" above the top of the wing. The same is true for the center section leading edge.

I think the reason is that the wing is sitting lower than planned. Looking at various pictures of the prototype cabin eagle I am not certain whether or not the wing fitting are attached at the same location as the double eagle. In any case mine does not match the plans.

Following Leonards' advice I will build the next pieces to fit what has already been built. In my case that means I will build the tank lower than the plans show. I will also build it wider to retain the planned fuel capacity. I will have to lower the center section leading edge to match. This will be a little tricky as it no longer sits on top of the front carry through and will have to be notched to clear the front cabin to firewall tubes.

I may also have to make minor modifications to the door mount to ensure it clears the wing and opens fully.

Again I'm not exactly sure where the discrepancy has occurred, but in any case I will build to fit.
