In-wing aileron control cables
« on: September 19, 2016, 02:43:29 PM »
Haven't found anything (yet) that asks/answers putting the aileron cables inside the wing.   Is this a cable safety/inspection issue?  Have only flown the Aeronca 7AC and was curious.

Thanks guys.

My question would be
What gain and work is there for me in this mod
I did not do what was on the plans, i used a cable outside the wing , but kept the principle the same
i needed dual stick control so this worked pretty good
if you need ,ore photos ask

hey brother....Im a retired A&P (airlines), IMHO dont do this. As you are aware it would become an inspection issue, among other things. Mr G has a cool way of using push/pull cables, and elevator push/pull tubes. Strong,dependable....absolutely. This Clark airfoil makes lotsa lift at the expense of speed. Simplicity is the CORE of this design. I am making a few changes, but most will reduce weight......and not create a more complex organism, so-to-speak. Any experienced builder will attest that most "builds" gain weight like a June bride. Performance is reduced, and we compensate with more prop/engine/etc. When we are "done", we could have purchased a c-150, of Chief that can fly circles around this fun/simple bird.. Just my 2 cents-worth. I am building this so I CAN fly  slow and low and cheap.

Mr. G. Any chance you could post pics of your elevator and rudder control setup, please ? It'd be nice to see the hinges too if possible. I'm just starting to build an XL but would like to find out more about 4130 empenage vs aluminum. Thanks. Dave Stroud

Boba65, thank you for an experienced qualified comment.   These are what I seek:  informed knowledable information.   Just thought it might be cleaner more effective (cleaner airflow and all).  Didn't think the weight would be an issue (my own ignorance.)   The $$$, yup, we've thought about that too but truth is, being pretty much homebound find the build a terrific enterprise (it's proven to be).   Will it fly, well, doing this let's me think I'll see it.

Thanks again, Bob

Thanks for sharing MrG

I've been looking for reasons to why those morse cables are not more commonly used throughout homebuilds.
I have had great experience with these cables on the ground, and I really don't treat them well.  I like them way better than wire, wheels, guides, springs setup.
