Bolt / Nut Torques
« on: July 08, 2021, 04:38:22 AM »
Anyone has a table of torques for bolts / nuts used in a DE?
Specifically, what is the torque on AN4s used on the spar fittings to fuselage?
Thanks,

The torque value for wooden spar bolts is "snug".

You must not crush a single fiber of the wood for fear of weakening it or breaking the moisture seal.  (you are sealing the bolt holes aren't you --see AC 43-13)

The torque values given in tables for bolt size are for fastening metal.  Except of course if you are putting bolts into an aluminum tube wing.  Then the torque value goes back to snug.

The spar bolts are not in tension so need no preload.  The nuts are just there to keep the bolt from falling out.

Here is an earlier discussion on it
