Question For nheistand or Anybody Using JB-Weld on Heads

Hope you are still reading the Forum. When you used the #10 screws and epoxy to close off the rocker box of your cylinder heads did you ever run that engine to see if the epoxy held up? JB-Weld is supposed to be good to 550F but I wonder if the aluminum expansion creates issues.

I ran across one site claiming JB expands 4 times as much as aluminum under heat.  That to my mind indicates flexibility.  JB web site shows a high temp product for use on exhaust manifolds...

I personally would have it welded or use one of the brazing alternatives out there, then go to JB to fix a leak.

I've been welding for 50 years, my father had a blacksmith shop for nearly 60 years, I learned very young. We used to see a lot of tourists in the summer, they would come in the shop with all sorts of items in need of repair. A lot of the time, you would get items that they had tried to repair with JB weld, cracked boats, boat motors, snowmobile parts, whatever, I have never seen anything repaired with JB weld that actually worked, other than maybe a toy, or something like that. I would not trust my life to JB weld. The only upside to using JB weld was, we got to charge them for the time to clean it off of the part, so we could weld it.
