Better Half Porsche 914?

Could the Better Half Porsche 914 be "a thing"? I was looking at their 4cyl engines and it looks like it could be done. They start off with more HP and still have the dual port intakes. Any thoughts on this?

If it really weighs 105 lbs, dual electronic ignition should put it contention with better half however

I think cost is a large concern too with most LE builders. I can get a rebuilt 914 engine on CL for less than a grand. The Pegasus engine is about $4000. Still not a bad price, but every penny counts.

You are buying a core. The Porsche thing doesn't so much matter as you get to throw the high rpm cam away.
The lower rpm the better for any prop man up to a point.
I saw everything I needed to see when Bob put up a set of jugs and pistons for $125.
If you want to spend money look at at the radial 3VW or the BMW
My son has been looking for a donor BMW here for a rat bike and the prices are just ridiculous due to the heavy following and low supply.

I would expect there is probably a better assortment of aftermarket performance VW engine parts and support anyway. Porsche people tend to be purists for the most part.

One of the big problems with the type 4 engine is the small crank snout up front.   Isn't suitable for prop loads.

Yes and if you have access to Porsche components, take advantage of it and make $$$ to pay for what you really need. For instance, I've build up a Porsche Speedster Replica 
with a Frankenmotor Soob engine. All homebrew stuff by me.  A genuine Porsche headlight bucket will cost you $1,300. I replace mine with a replica VW part for about  $20.

I thought this engine great too(i have four), great for the Vanagon, thereis guy on Ebay selling prop redrive kit for this motor, that would take stress off crankshaft, maybe best flywheel drive four cylinder. much torque although weight on mine is 152lbs. with 10-15 lbs. to go. 2100cc.

I wonder if this engine would work in something like Woody Pusher
