valve adjustment issues
« on: June 21, 2022, 06:40:14 AM »
Help!
I am running the 37 hp mosler. 150 hours on motor about 70 hours on new Casler heads and nic jugs. Flew last week ran great, first flight of season here in WI.

I checked valves on #2 and both really tight. like 2 turns out tight, When I did the adjustment to .006. The other side was very loose like 1/8" loose.

I adjusted both sides to .006 like I always did and the pushrods on the opposite side come out way too loose. (1/8" slop"

Did I stretch valves recede seats? ? i adjusted valves end of last season so only 8 hours ago

In all my valve adjustments  prior I had minimal adjustment. nothing like this.

I check oil screen for metal, and looked at pushrods, did not pull heads yet

Any ideas on how to approach this?

Thanks!
Bob

I'm trying to understand what is happening. Are you saying that you adjusted the intake & exhaust valves on #2 to .006" then rotated the engine and adjusted #4 intake & exhaust to .006" and while the engine was in that position the #2 intake & exhaust had loosened to 1/8" clearance? Sorry I could not picture your situation from your description.

Was engine cold, like overnite cold.  Checking warm can cause this

Thank you Both for your replys...I had a brain fart..
I normally use #2 for my #1 cyl at TDC when doing valve adj.  This being my first valve adj of the year, I used the wrong jug and adjusted the valves when on the exhaust stroke.....daaaa

I should have known when the valves were both so tight.....

I called Scott Casler and he chuckled and explained it right away....
I guess i was not the only one!!
RELIEF no issues so early in the season.

Happy flying.

P.S  Les I am really interested in the Briggs engine....where can I lurk to see the current status
