XL center of gravity
« on: November 01, 2020, 09:57:52 PM »
I'm waiting patiently waiting for my plans to arrive, but thinking ahead.....How well does the CG come out when building this design, and at what stage would you want to do a mock up to see if any major adjustments need to be made so that weight doesn t need to be added?
I'm also going to use a three cylinder Suzuki engine so I will have to consider engine placement to achieve CG.
Is there a known CG of the fuselage alone, that will, when the wings and tail are installed bring the final CG to the correct location?
Thanks , Glenn

Les homan posted a weight and balance for his "light" Verner powered Legal Eagle.
It's in here..

If your proposed engine is in the ball park (about 80 lbs.) it should be instructive.

Hi Gentlemen; New builder awaiting plans. ON CG. Much talk about safety cable to maintain cg if broken prop causes engine to depart. Someday I might do a sample cg calculation with all the engine weight moved back to the firewall. I wouldn't be surprised that the aircraft will still be uncontrollable. Anyone already done this or have thoughts?
Thanks

Attached is a screen shot of Les Homan's cable with the full case.

You have the right idea about it...  Differnt cats have to be skint differ
nt however.

It was a rule in formula Vee.  Noe cable, noe pass tech inspection...  That PDF should be in the files section.

They had to wrap the much longer cable around all 4 jugs.
