Wing root mounting brackets.
« on: June 13, 2024, 02:22:33 PM »
Hi guys, a quick question about drilling the wing root mounting brackets. I’ve just made the brackets for my XL wing roots and I’ve drilled all three holes as per the plans. Now I’m wondering if I should have left the hole that attaches the wing to the fuselage mount undrilled until time for rigging the wings to allow for alignment adjustments.

I think you will find that almost everyone drilled all three holes in their fittings during initial makeup. Normally, the adjustments are made by altering the struts.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, that’s what I kinda thought. It’s over 20 years since I finished my Zenith 701. I seem to remember not drilling some holes at the wing root until rigging and checking that the measurements from wingtips to tailpost were equal. I think there was some filing of brackets required to get it right.

Seems like a good way to get the wing attach brackets on the fuselage is to run rods through the mounting holes before the brackets are welded on. Get all the rod ends equal/square/plumb, etc, then weld them.
