Front gear leg angle.

Like a good plans following boy i built my front gear leg with 12 degrees of angle thinking that it would be equal with the wing leading edge or 6 inches forward of the mount. It's not. I'm  very confident that i got 12 degrees. I even triple checked that my fusalage was level. Also rigged a board on the wing mounts with a cross board to simulate the wing leading edge. I'm about 4 inches short according to the plumb bob. Luckily I left an extra inch on the tube so I can do it again but I'm disappointed that it was not right.  Any thoughts?

Looking at it some more I've decided that it will hit the edge of the bracket if I  increase the angle. I'm going to have to modify the design and put a bend or angled joint in order for this to work mechanically.  12 degrees should be scratchd out and build to fit should be added. 

For future builders, set up a plumb bob with your wing leading edge simulated and use that as your target. Consider making your bracket interior spacing wider to accommodate the bend at the upper root of the front leg. I'll make it work but I  wasted time and materials not using the plumb bob.

Yes Jeff, me too... I made mine hit the 6 inch & forgot the 12 degrees... a lot will depend on hight of overall gear too (i.e. size of gear)... The way I saw it, it was important to protect from nose over... but there are many builders that brought the gear WAY back to lighten up the tail... And yes mine would have hit the brackets too, I bent the bottom of the brackets outward slightly... you'll be fine either way is all I was trying to say... Good luck... be safe...

I paid no attention to the 12 degrees.. put the axles where I wanted them, fit tubing as necessary, and ran string lines down to see how to make the V.

I like your string line idea. Almost have one leg done and I'm about ready to do the second.

Also while doing a search on gear setup I came across a correction that Leonard made to the v strut. The plate is supposed to be. 062 instead of. 032.
