I screwed up! Up to late ,No I just screwed up. The last couple of braces are 5/8" not 1/2, glad I caught it while I only had two braces tacked in, I already have them removed. Looks like I'll have plenty of 1/2"

Easy to do especially when you are tired. Glad you caught it and have enough 1/2 tube.

Got some of my tubing order from Wicks. It seems nobody has round 7/8" x .062 wall. All that is available is .065 wall so I ordered that.  With .062 wall, (1/16"), the 3/4 " vertical fin will theoretically fit inside. So now I have to deal with a .006 difference and a no go fit. How would you subtract the .006 to allow the two tubes to fit together? I am thinking of dividing the difference between the two. The other way would be to take it all from the inside diameter of the .065 wall tube and make it what I needed in the first place. As they say in Jamaica... We be jammin'. Comments please.

Maybe you can find someone local with a 3/4 reamer to open the tubing up. I am in the same boat.

.058 wall is what's usually used to fit the next size smaller tube inside. the minor slop is ok in all the Eagle stuff where a tube is required in a tube. IMO.

I have to agree Joe. The .062 would be kind of a press fit and I would imagine it would be a bear to get apart. Happen to have a piece of 3/4 OD in the mess of welding practice stuff from Wicks. It is a sweet fit in the .058. Not too sloppy really. Well;  Jlwright and I will have to get some kind of a 3/4" drill/reamer to open things up a bit.

That big reamer is gonna be tough to hang on to in a 1/2 inch drill motor now that it is welded in. I kind of wish I had waited an ordered the .058 wall tubing. On the good side I have the lower longerons bent and welded to the tail piece. I'll be adding cross pieces and diagonals tomorrow.

yeah in most apps 058 is the traditional mate to the next size smaller tube.
think yall are talking about the short tailpost that the vert stab fits into? if so even 035 wall will be ok there IMO. its all gonna be cinched down with the brace wires and it aint gonna go anywhere. locked down tight. if you got probs with 063 already welded in its no big deal atall to cut it out. handheld angle grinder with a 1/16 cutoff wheel and you got it out shortly...just be as careful as you can and don't remove any more of the long ends than you can. a dremel with the reinforced cutoff wheel helps in the little tight spots. ive had to cut out stuff constantly on this new thing. it wud definitely be easier *for me* to cut that heavy wall outa there than try to ream it. thats gonna be a bigger problem than the cutout, i hate spinning around on the end of a big handheld drill. you'll have it cutout and replaced before most of us could find a 3/4 reamer to borrow. try not to run the 1/16 cutoff wheel across your fanghur. it's not fun trust me. the bone filings piled up on the exit side will make you go weakneed for a minute.

if yall don't wanta cut that tailpost out you could turn down a piece of heavy wall 3/4 AL tube say about 5" long and pop rivet it in the bottom of the vert stab tube. 3" in 2" out turn it to a nice push fit in the stab and the tailpost. the rivets you put in the rib gussets will hold it in. i'd use Avex 4s for that maybe add a few on the backside. it'll still be there when we're all long gone...and a rather elegant solution i reckon

So I'm looking at ordering my aluminum for my tail surfaces. The only thickness on the tubing I can find is in the forward portion of the plans where Leonard calls for .035" tubing. I look at the material list:
4' - 1"x.058"
4 ea 1 1/4x'058x122'
2 ea 3/4x.035x12'
2 ea 5/8x,035x12'
2 ea3/8x.035x12'
1 ea1/2x1/2x .062angle

I know this can't be correct, especially the 122' of 1 1/4. Where would I use 1 1/4" anyway? Help, what are the size tubes being used in the XL and where?

As for as the 7/8 .065 tubing I got from Wicks, a 3/4 4130 fits nicely, I used a 3/4 inch tube inside the 7/8" tail post to hold the fuselage while I tack welded it.

The 1.25" looks like round wing struts.

The struts never entered my mind, I was so focused on what thickness the walls were for the other tubing that went right over my head. Has anyone figured if there is a weight penalty for using the streamline struts verse the aluminum tube? And can everything but the control stick be .035"::)

So for the X material list is short 5/8" .035 for the cabanes from station one to the top longeron, top diagonal from station 1 to station 2, landing gear, and V struts. It is also shot 3/4" .062 for the axles.  .062 x 1/2" sq tubing I will have enough 5/8 for the top diagonal station 1 to station 2 if I splice it.
I think I may try .125" wall 5/8" tubing for my axles to shave a little weight.
