« on: August 11, 2015, 10:08:02 AM »
Attached is link of flight from Ely Nevada to 11,117 feet made in Legal Eagle XL. It is a little long but flying in beautiful country and not often flown by Legal Eagles so i wanted to share.

Les,
Great flick, thanks for sharing it and inventing your tag a long camera.

I saw 8,200 feet on the GPS and 16 minutes on the timer (not sure of the time or if it is really a timer) the first time you turned your camera on the instruments.  The airport elevation is given on the chart as 6259.  (I looked it up on AirNav.com)

Is there any way we can nail down a ballpark climb rate at that DA from the video or any notes you may have..?

I was not going for a climb test.  The time on stop watch included all time from start of engine and was about 7 minutes to takeoff.  From 6200 to 8500 or so i would say maybee 300 fpm would not be far off. As i neared 11,000 it was more lijlke 30 to 50 fpm.  To many variables and when soaring with the eagles might notice mountain structures, location of flying machine and any winds. The real question is could this be duplicated over wide open spaces with no winds and i believe it could be but would use more time

Thanks Les.  Looks like lots of good soaring lift along those crests...
