Jury Strut attachment to the Carlson extruded tubes
« on: January 19, 2016, 11:08:36 PM »
I have purchased the Carlson Extruded Strut material.  I need some help with page #55 of my XL drawing package.  There is an arrow pointing to the vertical lift strut and to a vertical jury strut.  Are they both extruded streamlined material?  If so the detail for joining them together is confusing for me.  Does anyone have photo of this connection?  It looks like three pieces are connected together.  The 1/2" round Alum. tube and two extruded tubes all at one connection. The connection at the front and rear spar is not detailed either.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic of some that look to not have drilled the lift strut...  Looks like a wrap-around that could have tabs welded to it.

I used a stainless wrap around strap to attach the jury struts.  put some tape under the strap.  has not moved and no hole through the strut.

Just a thought. Do you need the jury struts if using the streamlined struts.  Seems like somewhere I heard they are not required if streamlined are used.

Leonard has changed his position on extruded alum. lift struts being stiff enough to not require installation of jury struts.  The jury struts are needed for the extruded lift strut build also.  They are called out on page #55 of the drawing package.  I believe there was a discussion on this back in 2014.

Hi All
There is a metal band wrapped around the strut with small tabs on the top.  there is a hole in bent up tab that a small bolt goes through and another tab around the bolt and that tab sticks up in the vertical jury strut and a small bolt holds that tab in the strut it also holds the horizontal round brace that goes to the other vertical jury strut  Leonard

I made a sketch of what I think you explained above.  See attachment.  Does this look right?
