Hinge make up
« on: August 11, 2016, 07:57:25 AM »
It has been very quiet on the forum lately- Everyone building I suppose.
Thought I would post the photo of hinge piece again.

Also wanted to make notice that by doing so, the rotation about the axis of the larger tube is the center of the hinge, and not the large tube.  Or perhaps better said, the large tube will travel in distance about the arc of the center axis of the hinge.    Some have found if they are changing a hinge to this method, and it was a pitts type barrel hinge where the large tube only rotated in the barrel, then go to this type of strap hinge, things change and the large tube has more movement up and down.

All part of the 1 in 10 factor-   Where- one change can lead to 10 more changes easily.

Enjoy the build process!

Thanks Scott.

This is how I had planned my hinges which saves some weight too.  In the interests of safety I assumed I would epoxy to the tubes as well as riveting given the hinges do not go completely around the tubes.

Darren.

3M 2216 epoxy mixed correctly, with 2 "tear rivets"  will secure in a tremendous fashion.  Use proper cleaning methods for this epoxy, and the bond is stronger than the base alum.
