These pics show the Flightstar II SC tail.  It looks like the cable is indeed mounted on the mid-line.  (under the max height of the arc of the horn)

Also they appear to be the redundant push-pull arrangement.

who has used 'push/pull' cables? i think they might be too heavy, i had thought to make my own out of pex tubing (1/2" inside of 5/8")

FWIW.. I had a Bowden cable fail one time.The sheath pulled out of the crimped connection. I was taking a kid for an airplane ride in Mouser. When I started to reduce power to land, that didn't happen. I told the kid, "see those two switches on the panel?" "Yes." When I tell you, push both of them down. Can you do that?" "Sure."

He did that, things went quiet, and we made a normal landing. After that, when I see Bowden cables on primary controls, I pass.

Not much. Back in the neolithic when I learned to fly,  Tommy (great pilot) always taught power off landings. "That way, if you have an engine out, you'll always know where you can land."
We came in just a little high, slipped on final, and just let her roll out. The kid didn't know anything wasn't "normal" and had a grin a mile wide.
