Rib Lacing
« on: March 12, 2017, 08:20:24 PM »
Just wondering if any one is rib lacing on the DE. I don't see anything  in the plans. It seems like some of the tail section should be rib laced.

We rib laced wings of both our LEU Treehugger and DE Stubby.

If the fabric ever pulled loose from the top surface, that would be bad news.  So, we decided to positively prevent that.  It was good to learn how and did not take too long.

Ditto.  I did just the top on the wings, and both sides of all control surfaces.  Kind of fun to do, actually.

I plan to rib stitch mine as well. I don't think I want to trust glue along that 1/4" wide rib to save my life. It may last as long as the fabric without a problem but it seems like if a problem arose, that may be the last problem I may face. I can't take that risk since a preventative measure is so easy to accomplish. Flying a new airplane is risky enough, new to me aircraft to figure out how to fly, new engine I'm hoping to get me around the pattern and hoping I did everything correctly. I don't need to be thinking that only glue is holding my wing fabric on and preventing flutter that may cause my wing or tail sections to self destruct!! Just my thinking and opinion. 😩
