Cabin Eagle builders' logs?
« on: September 04, 2017, 05:49:08 PM »
It's been over a year since Leonard's release of the Cabin Eagle plans.  I got mine, but I am not in a position to build right now.  Does anyone know of any Cabin Eagle builds being documented (in the group, Facebook, blogs, etc.) that I could follow?  If I can't build, I'd at least like to follow along with someone else build to learn and enjoy.  Thanks!  Cheers, Matthew

Mathew,
I'm making progress on my Cabin Eagle build. The wings, fuselage, and tail feathers are pretty much complete. Working on wiring, then hanging the engine and covering.
There are still a thousand and one little things to be done. I was hoping to fly this year but I'm a bit behind schedule. Hopefully the 1st half of next year.
You can see my progress at http://www.mykitlog.com/pshadwick . I'm not great at keeping it up to date and I still need to add pictures.

My CE is progressing VERY slowly. I do not have a build log and I am not very good at taking or posting pictures. I have one wing nearly done, but the aileron is not built yet. I am starting to install the plywood leading edge. I have waited on building the aileron because I am considering making a change to the wing fold system which may necessitate a change to the control system. So far, what I have built will work on either the DE or the CE, so not much info you may be looking for.

Progress has been slow the last six months. I am hoping to fly by mid summer.

Great to hear, how about a few pics here or on your build log?

Neat, I like the New Zealand roundel.  From the photo, it looks like you've made some changes (those triangular gussets vs. the round washers on the plans, for example).  Could you discuss what you did and why?

I have a rotax 582 I’m going to try. The recommendation is for rubber mounts at both ends with a two stroke. That’s what I made the firewall mount as I did.

I look forward to seeing your project progress, the CE should have great performance with a 582.

Paul, Rich, or anyone else have any updates on Cabin Eagle project progress?  Whose will be the first customer-built CE to fly?

My build has been extra slow this year. I put a lot on hold to concentrate on getting my private pilot license. I passed my check ride on December 2nd! After the holiday obligations are finished, I will be getting back to my build. Not much to report. My right wing has half of the leading edge on but no aileron yet. The left wing has no nose ribs yet or aileron. All my wing and strut attach fittings are done. No fuselage or tail work started yet.

I'm also well behind schedule.
The fuselage firewall back is complete and painted. Both wings are built and one has been covered and painted. Tail feathers are done.
I hope to have the other wing covered by the end of Feb (some travelling in January). Then I'll temporarily mount the engine and get the CG, build the engine mount and connect everything up.

Oh I did get my tailwheel endorsement :)
