XL material list
« on: January 05, 2014, 05:24:48 AM »
Is the material list for the XL on file somewhere on the forum. I am waiting for my plans to arrive but would like to place an order tomorrow for material to make wing ribs. I have the plans for a regular LE but understand I will need more because of the longer wing.

Thanks Steve.  I have the cad drawings from Scott in Iowa so that allowed me to get the rib jig all set up and ready. I just modified my old airbike jig to match the new cad drawing. The ribs are very close to being the same.

Double check length of 5/8" and 1/2" round tubing. I believe you will find there is to much 1/2" and not enough 5/8"

The material list doesn't seem to have enough .020 aluminum sheet. All the ribs and gussets for the tail from one sheet of 20" X 24"? I haven't laid anything out yet but some of the ribs are over 30". Anyone know how much you actually need?

C-77 was published in July 2013, it's still 1 ea 20" x 24" .020

That first inboard brace on the horizontal stab looks like its 36" long too.

I do see the sixth 4130 tubing item was changed to 2 ea .05" square .065" and the seventh was lined out.

Hey Les, (or anyone else), I am hours away from ordering my 4130 tubing. Anyone know exactly how much extra 5/8" x .035 I should order?  105 ft + ???. Thanks Rich.

Purchase some extra while you are at it. If you cut a tube too short you may have just made an addition to the set of wind chimes that always result from one of these projects.  ;)

If in doubt about quantities, go old school--get out the plans and a ruler and add up the total material needed.

30 ' of 1/2" is not enough, ran out on the last brace running from the lower to upper longeron. I need  25" length only have about a foot left. Will have to check the rest of the drawings to see how much more 1/2" is required.

Also the new tank of oxygen, it's empty! Oh well there is always football tomarrow.
