single port head cutting
« on: September 10, 2018, 06:18:33 PM »
I found and old 1200cc vw engine for experimentation/familiarization, has single port heads. I looked at cutting in half and how squarely i could saw the intake port for plugging.( the side that will be trash,) then i could finish the cuts to end up with a head thats more like 3/4 than half. isnt more aluminum better here for cooling?   This is prototype remember, i retired mechanic restoring old diesels the last few years... I'm on a three year plan to fly, likely buy from Scott in Az. by then. But maybe not i always see 1600's on craigslist. Maybe i can read someone else post on cutting these heads?
Thanks
Theo

The exhaust valve would perhaps benefit from more heat sink metal.

However, if I have a grasp on what you are experimenting on, you will be leaving extra metal near the already cold intake valve area...

Revmaster have new high dollar heads with big valves and big cooling fins.

They also have a new 3000 CC design, that doesn't resemble a VW engine very much, but could be the ultimate 1/2 VW conversion...

Now i have decided to rebuild this engine as four cylinder.  prototype not air worthy make a engine that can go into a dune buggy or something.
