Folding wing
« on: December 31, 2018, 11:01:39 AM »
I heard that someone was working or exploring a folding wing mod for the eagle. I know the mod would probably take it out of the ultralight category. Just curious if anyone heard of anything thanks

The airbike folding wing parts are pretty simple and add very little weight.  That is the one i am going to be using.  Jordan lake aero has the plans for download free

Do you have a link?  I would love to have folding wings, just need plans.

honestly folding wings ought to be a solid option for this plane.  i dont have any open hangars near me so i would have to trailer the plane. making it easier to do so would definitely be a perk of the folding wings.  or at least fold one wing or both to share a hangar with someone

Very Nice,  I believe I will put that into my build.  I am just starting the leading edge so would be the perfect time to incorporate that design.  Will draw it out in Fusion 360 I believe and validate the fit on the XL and the fold clearances.

Took me a minute (well more than one) understand the design plans as provided in the link - from my understanding the forward mounts "slide" along the tube into the wing.  I would think you would want to be very careful of that operation as the design does not seem to ensure the tube sliding into wing is "held" perpendicular to the wing length.  I could see lowering the wing while in the inward position and rode pushing thru internal structure.  Wonder if a fiberglass tube could be mount internally to prevent that.   Hum, that would not work with the stop bolt at the end!

Leonard's Cabin Eagle has folding wings. Perhaps buy those plans and adapt to the Eagle you are building?
Don in Okla.  DE Plans B-40 (small), CE plans CE-02 (all weather),  Tailwind project #746 (medium),  C182A (large)
One size does NOT fit all!

did not know that - I was thinking of purchasing the plans anyway - that may be my next build after this one.
