1/4" Triangle position question - Help please...
« on: January 17, 2019, 11:45:57 PM »
Hi Guys,
I am having trouble with the 1/4" triangle reinforcements position in the aileron pocket.
I can't tell exactly which edge they glue to. I have watched Leonard's video over and over.
I guess old age is catching up with me..
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks guys.

I also put them on the trailing edge [A]. This will stiffen the edge where the fabric wraps around. I glued 1/4" square cap strips and then used a sanding block with 50 grit to remove the edge. So now it's not quite square, not quite triangle, but somewhere in between.

Your wing looks great. Are those green foam ribs in between the plywood? Are you going to put them between every plywood rib?

How thick did you make the foam ribs in the wings? Looks like the ones in the ailerons are about an inch wide.

I made the aileron foam pieces from 2" foam and the wing ribs from
1" foam. I am done with the wire cutting templates if you would like them.
Or I can laser you out some new ones!

Thanks for the info, Maxray. I've got aluminum templates for rib noses & aileron noses. I will hot wire the foam ribs from 1-inch pink or blue foam once I figure out if one is lighter than the other.

Been in construction most of my life, the pink and blue are the same type of product. Same process, r value etc. They come in a variety of trade names but are all similar. Blue is a Dow product pink is an Owens Corning. The one that is readily available or cheaper would be the choice. Need to save weight go to 3/4 inch. You shouldn't be needing sideways strength just something to attach too. I assume your concern is dimples and stuff from humidity.
