XL Landing Gear, Build questions
« on: March 07, 2019, 02:27:19 AM »
Hello,

I have my fuselage tacked up, about to start landing gear.  Not experienced at fabricating from plans. Can someone direct me to or provide pics of the landing gear construction, pics of the straps used on the ends.  Also some good pics of the fuselage fittings attached.  I am sure once I see them it will be easy to proceed.

Thanks,

Pat

Hi Pat,
A great source is Scott Weinberg. He has some fantastic CAD drawings and instruction on the Eagles that may help you when you start fabricating.
He also makes some really cool yard art.

I generally tackle questions like yours once they come up, but never really touched on the landing gear much because of Joe Englemans excellent design. I think some of his stuff is in the download zone.

I have some pictures here (see below) on page three.  I made mine before the fittings were modified with a tab at bottom of fitting.  I drew some sketches of my own also.

That's what I am talking about!  The top of the gear legs, the 3/8"hinge bushing is it welded to the top of tube or notched in?  I see it says to strap it, but no detail on how the bushing/hinge is attached. A close up pic of the top of the gear leg would help greatly.  I tried to expand the pic above but it would not.

THanks,
Pat

I tried to find Joe Englemans post on the gear and could not, could you direct me to them?  Looked in downloads.  I am not very good at searching on websites.  I keep finding new things the more time I spend on here but cannot find much on the gear.

Thanks,

Pat

Thanks, it shows the shock strut pdf. Have seen lots of pics of the gear searching around, think I got it.

I couldn't wrap my head around how the shock strut went together but once I built the parts and laid all the pieces out on my table it made sense.
