Axle Size
« on: December 24, 2019, 08:16:52 AM »
The following weights are for each 8 inch axle on the LE.

I am about to start welding up some of the sub assemblies. I see the XL uses a 3/4 axle. I searched the forum "axle" and found quite a bit on the subject. But I can find much on the smaller LE. The drawing shows 5/8 and I assume .035 wall thickness. But there isn't much in the forum on this. I was going to get a thicker walled tube for the axle but as the table shows, thicker walls start to add weight quickly. I believe Sam B. used 5/8-.035 without problems. But others have bent theirs.

I wonder if anyone wants to chime in on this old subject... axle size for the LE.
I'm using Tuff wheels with sealed bearings.

Cheers

This is what I did, the .049 axle was slowly bending - http://www.angoraaffaire.com/leu/id48.htm

I am using a 5/8"x.120 for axle. the black max brakes come with a solid 5/8" shaft for axle.
