Yes indeed, we are only talking about a few inches. Depending on how testing goes I think optimal diameter is 64-68". May even be able to just mount larger diameter tires.

Well, I finally had time to work on the XL. Got the second wing near complete, and started installing controls in the fuse.

If this engine proves as dependable and durable as we hope,  I wonder if we might see a new generation of LEs with somewhat taller gear to accommodate an even more ideal prop diameter? More air moving slower is way more efficient for these 103 birds let alone more comfortable on the pilot. I suspect that the ROC will be like a heart sick angel:)

I haven't asked but it appears http://www.hummelengines.com/ uses someone else besides LN engineering to do their cylinders now.

I noticed they use the term "Nicom" this may be where he is getting his cylinders.

I would try to buy Nickies for my radial 3vw from Scott Casler...  You may want Nicom to treat your piston skirts as well.

I stopped by Franks booth, and the engines and props sure looked good.   I know Frank is in mid-build...so can't show the whole thing together...yet.

but here are some observations:

There were many-many aircraft in the LSA-ultralight range, that were sorta there.  The SD-1 really comes to mind,  once again this has changed hands, and yet, only a partial aircraft displayed, with few looking it over, perhaps much to do with the fact, that this has almost always been shown as a "dream" and hardly ever a complete flying plane after many years.

The BD-6, which was fairly promoted last year, was in fact, no change this year.
The ION- had 5 whole hours flown on it, since last year.
The ICON A5, has started to be the joke of the investing world.  $35 Million later, and still almost NO production But if you have $197,000 plus some 15K for chute money, you might get one, with restrictions. 

I am just picking on some of the really obvious ones, there are many many more. And this of course has gone on easily for the last 15 years.

I commend Steve J. for bringing in his bird...Flying and all.   WELL done.

Do something everyday on it, even just to study the next piece to be worked on... To sand the wings I hung them leading edge up at eye level and used a 220 grit foam core sanding block in each hand... There was a windrow of saw dust on the floor and it went fast... Here the varnishing system I should of used instead of spraying HVLP twice - went way heavy [scroll down to last screen]: http://www.angoraaffaire.com/leu/wings.htm
