Frank
How long is it getting?
Perhaps another horrizontal brace @ the mid point.
Long unsupported tubes fail by buckle.
And if any tubes are going to get challenged the landing gear is the obvious contender.
Hate to add weight but a consideration.
looks good
I was going to make a tall gear anyway based on comments by Joe Spencer. he likes a greater angle of incidence at 3 point stance.

Tom,

I added 2 inches vertical height, and kept the wheels in same location(for CG) per plans. I also added a horizontal 1/2 inch tube , about 3 inches down from gear attach point. If you compare the LE to XL gear, the XL has larger dia tubes everywhere,

Doing my best to build light, but life is full of compromises!

Been looking at 8.00 x 6 tires also, this gives additional height, just dont want to add too much weight. If they need tubes it's a deal killer.

Frank, I think your going to have to go to tubeless ATV tires to save the weight your hoping to.  Dune buggy tires too, that are tubeless.   Might have to set up a  end lathe to shave off the lugs..  (wood bowl lathe) but that works well.

Keep us informed.

What was the best tire you descided on?

can you make a breakdown, size vs weight of the tires, I want to get larger ones but light as possible, the tractor tires may be best solution but just seems heavy, but the 2 ply ones may be a little lighter, about 5lbs each, but sure does add some weight. I'm still searching for the good combination. I know sam and a couple others used the 15x6x6 Carlisle Turf II

The one currently mounted is the Carlisle turf II. I'll leave them on until i mount the engine and check prop clearance(67" diameter prop).

The tires that came with the Black max wheel set are 2.2 lbs each. About 12"tall
The Carlisle Turf II are 6.2 lbs mounted(don't have unmounted weight yet). 13.7" Tall mounted
The Carlisle 8.0 x 6 are 8.1 lbs each. 18" tall

Now the Turf II and 8.0 x 6 could easily be reduced in weight by shaving off some tread as Scott mentioned earlier, how much is unknown.

Looks really good Frank.
That Scarlett is gorgeous. A 67" prop? Very nice...
I was looking at those 18's myself as I doubt if mine will ever see any pavement.

What is a Scarlett?  ArticDave?

Frank it looks like you got a great planning mission ahead of you for the tires, well done so far on your research.

Scott- Verner calls their line of Radial Engines Scarlett.

ArcticDave- Yeah, i dont anticipate mine seeing any pavement either.

On the prop, By my calculation the 3VWs ideal prop diameter is 67", testing will hopefully confirm this.

With all the extra chord in Leonard's wings, Eagles appear to get aloft pretty quick even with low thrust numbers. That thing is going to jump off the ground with all that thrust...but you knew that.
Watching with intense interest Frank, I will need an engine at some point and that little radial is on the short list.
