Now for a comparison of props. One is for a 45HP 1/2 VW the other is the prototype for the Scarlett 3VW.

Frank,

Is the little toothpick the Scarlett prop? I was thinking it would run a larger diameter prop than the halves. Don't they just turn it ~2500rpm for max power?

Have you gotten an official weight on yours yet. It's light enough to pick up and step on the scales with.

It does look like a super LE engine!

@sciguy, it is the larger one. Check to 2 photos of the props against the one on the new engine. It rotates anti clockwise, so therefore is the larger one. The Smaller one would be for the VW based engine.

am i right Frank ?

cheers Paul

Paul,

That's a keen eye there. I was thrown by the larger prop lacking holes and then the one pictured on the Scarlett being drilled. I was really hoping that it was the bigger one.

Yeah, sorry i didn't clarify that. The S3VW turns clockwise(sittin in the seat view) Yes, much larger prop compared to the 1/2. Almost twice the blade area of the 1/2 also. this first prop is 62x36, the diameter is limited by ground clearance. but could go larger if we weren't worried about trimming it inadvertently.
82lbs with starter assembly and generator. close to 70 without those conveniences.
it'll be interesting to see the ROC will be, max torque is 2100-2200- rpm and 38-39 hp. :-)

If this engine proves as dependable and durable as we hope,  I wonder if we might see a new generation of LEs with somewhat taller gear to accommodate an even more ideal prop diameter? More air moving slower is way more efficient for these 103 birds let alone more comfortable on the pilot. I suspect that the ROC will be like a heart sick angel:)
