I have been looking around for the aluminum for the seat what is the best place to get it from?
I made a cloth seat but like the waffle butt.

I purchased an Aluminum Sheet from McMaster-Carr for $15.59. It's fairly soft but it's priced right and it's corrosion resistant, very easy to work with. I'm afraid I can't comment on shipping cost as I had it sent to my work so shipping was free. While not the strongest aluminum out there, a single 1" wide strip of 0.016" should be able to hold nearly twice my weight. I reason that 8 of them woven together with the 14 cross strips should be strong enough for a seat.

Hey Frank - we are fighting the Hogs here too - just ripping the runway up in several areas - is getting to be a constant battle - trapping is not keeping them down & shooting is just one at a time and you never know when they are going to show.  Good Luck in your battle with them.

Best of hunting - the more the better. I run night scope but not suppressor - may have to rethink that if you have good success.

The Eagle is looking good Frank.
I have some family over in Alabama and they have a heck of time with the feral hogs as well. About all you can do is keep shooting em. The young ones do taste pretty good.

Saw a youtube video once of a bait station around a can of Tannerite. Results were spectacular and disgusting.

Well, It's been a while, but i've made more progress lately. Crafted me a Tapered rod tailwheel assembly. and it's lighter than the flat spring and plans type tailwheel.

Where did you get the wheel itself, I like the looks of it and the size.

What rod material did you use for the "spring"?

Pete, I am not sure what Frank used.  But 17-4PH works well for spring applications.   Perhaps a more interesting question "after" one knows the material,  is
  • total length
  • dia.
  • starting end strait length
  • ending end strait length
  • Of course the taper in between is calculated  by knowing the first 4 answers

By the way, there are generally three grades of 17-4 PH a person can use... we generally go with the strongest grade for spring application such as this.

As you may have figured out, my brother and I make springs to order for stinger type aircraft...but what I generally don't do is tell the customer what he needs as the variables are to great.  They tell us, what they want.

$75-$100 gets nearly all the orders covered, up to 16" in length and up to .875" dia.   (far larger than any XL would ever need)

best of sucess

Pete- I purchased some 1/2" stainless rod to fit things up till i could research what would be the best material for the actual spring.

Scott- Thanks!! No more research needed. Wish i would have realized you fabricated these, you need to offer tailwheel assemblies for the Eagles.

Time will tell if the 1/2" rod is adequate, with my rather crude testing it seems so. This is the third attempt at a tailwheel that is to my liking. And i'm close, But i think the caster is still too aggressive. More to come

Looks good Frank!
Since the subject has come up...how much travel does a tailwheel need to have? Is 2-3 inches sufficent or does it need more?
