Graham Lee Aluminum Planes
« on: March 11, 2014, 08:25:36 AM »
Steve, your an engineer, & familiar with The Graham Lee designs such as the Miranda and the Nieuports.  They have a press that they use to compress aluminum into a some what of a streamlined shape. Would this work for the struts on the XL?

Gil: Well, I'm actually a wood butcher but I have read that pressing alum tube into an oval materially weakens it in the lift strut application... I would never use the oval tube unless it has been engineered for the specific airplane... Steve
