Work bench width and lenght
« on: March 19, 2014, 06:16:22 AM »
Hello to all have just torn my shed to pieces and  reorginised moved chucked and stacked and sorted the available workspace and am after any suggestions to the right length and width of work bench for fusealage and wing construction so as not to be on the short or narrow size but also conservative as work space is at a premium any suggestions much appreciated and many thanks in advance Macca in Oz :)

Hi Macca,
If your building an XL or LE, I recommend two tables.  8 foot by 2 foot each... the XL is 22 inches wide at the cockpit, LE is 19 inches I believe.  That gives you two tables with one sheet of ply.  The two tables can be connected with bolts to give you one 16 foot X 2 foot table for the fuselage build.  You can keep them together or side by side for wing build.  The use one table for the tail feather build.  When your finished building, one table can be stacked upside down on the other table to save space.  If your floor is not level then you would want leveler screws on the legs, as you want the table level when building to insure a straight build of all assemblies.    Just some thoughts.

Macca:
Consider this table for the fus build:
- then another set-up for the wing & empennage build - there is a nice two table scheme for that...

Ahh ok, 24 inches - thanks for the correction there, I was on a roll and knew there was a minor difference between the two, ----   but your right & it will make a difference with the table being made...

Shouldn't make any difference, a 24" table will work nicely.
