Oil loop on 37 hp Mosler
« on: September 01, 2014, 06:59:03 PM »
My Mosler 37 hp has the oil line loop connecting the 2 ports on the cool cooler location. I assume this was done for some cooling? Not sure . Will it help me get over 160 if I cap this off? Does Scott or great planes sell a cap to cap this off?
Thanks
Bob

if you're talking about the 2 ports on top of the motor about mid case...you can't cap those off cause it'll block the oil flow. its gotta circulate thru both those ports. if it's like my Casler that's what the loop is for

Thanks Joe,
I thought I had seen this area capped off on some engines. I hardly get to 130 degrees during my run up sessions. I read maybe to only run 2 qts to get the temp up? Anything else I can do? Think I will hit 160in the air?

Buy the way.... at air venture you and I discussed composite tail springs  I ended up bending one up out of 6061 3/8" aluminum. Not too heavy and seems to be holding up. I still plan on going composite sometime after I get t his bird in the air....
This carb. EGT thing is driving me nuts. If I can just get to 1200 or higher I am going to fly it...I get 3100 static just fine

3100 rpm static on a grossed out LE produces wimpy ROC at sea level (I like to see 3350 rpm static) - I will not fly if I don't see 3200 static but remember I launch from a 2600 ft elevation airport in the mtn/desert that has density altitude off the Koch chart scale all summer long...
