Cutting Mikuni Carb Springs
« on: September 08, 2014, 10:00:40 PM »
I know this is not a New Topic because I have seen it discussed before - have 'searched' old conversations in both groups without stumbling upon the discussion - So, does anyone out there have some information handy on this... Seems I remember the springs were reduced by something like 25% or so to relieve the pressure on the throttle cabling - would prefer to lighten the spring tension in lieu of more throttle friction... Any info will help

Thanks

Hugh:

The VM32 has a very aggressive spring in it and you can see what I did in Item #2 here: http://www.angoraaffaire.com/leu/id67.htm

I have examined my VM28's and the spring is different - not as aggressive so the cut values in my notes may not hold on all Mikuni sizes... I suggest using some tests with a scale over a measured compression distance to arrive at the cut value going in 10% increments...

Thanks for the info - I knew I had seen it somewhere....  I will work with the springs 'gengerly' - this problem is on 26mm Mikuni's and have some 28's I may go to later after I get the XL in the air.  This engine has run before with the 26's, so will start there.
